  1. This is one of the examples that makes people mad when Americans say if it wasn't for us you'd be speaking German, no insult to you but America had it easy, we had to put up with this kind of thing and still had to fight the war at the same time, we couldn't hide away at home, No work, no food/water, no fire services or police, and supplies and war equipment, if people hide away you've already lost, and imagine the dead left out or half buried, you don't know what kind of health hazard that would put in the rest of the population

  2. I have a fascination with wartime Britain, b cause of the stories my grandparents told me. I come from Greater London it's everywhere if you look for it- there are old stories and evidence of bomb damage and air raid shelters that are still there underground around where we lived, including the grounds of my school.
My grandad was evacuated to the Surrey countryside and stayed friends and visited regularly with his host family all his life till he died a few years ago.
My maternal grandmother told me stories of sheltering in the London Underground.

  3. While we got the blitz Germany was also getting bombed and Hitlers switch to civilian targets was intially an accident because planes never had targeting systems in those days and they came out stright away and said it was an accident but we retaliated bombing Germany it may have been Berlin or another city so then Hitler switched tactics to all out warfare. And we retaliated in kind you should do a reaction to the dam busters. The UK made a bomb that could skim accross water like skipping stones and they blew up a dam in Nihelm Germany killing between 1200 and 1600 people but sadly a lot of Polish and Ukrainian and other eastern European POW's we amounst the dead. We was the only Country that fought the war from the first day to the last and for I think it was 2 years fought the war completely on our own.

  4. Mike from Hereford here Manchester originally ive been subscribed for a few years now. My grandad was in local newspapers in second world war as a hero. He was a gunner and shot Down one of the first German jet planes at half one in the morning in his pajamas and saved around a hundred troops and my uncle les out of the blown up barracks. He past away when I was 10 years old from cancer in our house. My step grandad was in the s.a.s 😊

  5. 19:38 it's so deep if you look into it that I don't know why any everyday British people rate Churchill/the gov or monarchy… they even went as far as blocking off the tube so people couldn't shelter, it was only due to protests and East Londoners occupying the Savoy Hotel shelter and rich people started being affected that then the gov decided to intervene — and that's after all the police beatings etc at the protests… they have never cared about us and never will.

  6. this is why so many old houses in london dont exist,, we blew up all german cities, continously, and yank bomber joined us later andbobmed germany in day time, having alot fo losse, 56,000 bomber crews died inww2

  7. blackouts, meatnolights on cars as well ,or houses,, it was difficult for both sides bobmers to work out where they were , cloud couldalso make it difficult, imagine ukraine right now, beingbobmed every day by russia, or gaza

  8. Apart from the attack on pearl harbour life for the everyday US citizen continued as normal, (yes you did have severe rationing and changes to your workforce from peacetime to a war footing), all the way through ww2, But you didn't have all your major cities being bombed every single Day for months. Your citizens having to hide out in bomb shelters and underground stations, hoping they had a home to return to the next morning, London was bombed every day for 8 months, with a loss of over 30K, lives, and if you include the other cities that were bombed that number rises to over 50K. Thankfully your country was saved from that fate.

  9. My mother and her family went through it in Liverpool, my mother told me her brother came home very early, he warned her not to take her usual route to work, as there were bodies and parts of bodies along the street she travelled along. Our docks had supplies and naval vessels that the Germans targeted daily, fires burnt along the docks, mainly storage buildings.

  10. Germany was building up their weapons and forces for years before they attacked. No other European countries wanted war after the horrors of the first world war only 21 years before. So we were overwhelmingly outmatched logistically.
Hitler wasn't listening to anyone else he was the main man in hi own head. My parents were both in the war. My mother was 8 at this time in London, years being bombed. Several houses in her street were flattened.
My Dad was in the RAF 18 the month it all started. No one lived normally fof years!
