Afghanistan never progressed from a tribal country and may never change but it seems that the people are not inclined to change things and it's the women and children that will suffer the most. Iran, on the other hand, 40 years ago, was a much more modern society with modern dress and schools for men and women and were living a much better way of life but it was radical elements from radical religious that killed that country and we should have fought harder to keep their country in tact. The Persians want their country back the way it was. The current government do present a threat to free people around the world and if you don't believe me listen to the Persian immigrants that fled Iran who still have family over there.
To think that all this, 20 years of this, was for nothing… Saddens me.
Too many factions. Too many blood feuds. These people have been fighting for centuries. We — the western coalition — are just another army to be dealt with for them. It's nothing new, they've seen it all before. My heart goes out to the civilians and the soldiers and airmen who no doubt are doing it for the right reasons… but reason, so often, has little to do with it. Great documentary.
