One thing making recovery vehicles more important is that Ukraine and Russia both have tanks left over from the Soviet era. Russian equipment can be pulled back for use by Ukraine, either in operation, or as source of spares.

My grandfather was in the 7th armoured division (desert rats). He went the long way to Germany in the 2nd world war, through the desert and via Italy. He lost all of his friends on the way but he did get to enjoy his retirement.

I was from 1992-96 posted to 4 Armd Wksp/ 3Bn REME, where I was part of a Forward Repaor Team on a Warrior FV512 as part of the Forward Repair Group. I had the High Mobility Trailer with the CV12 power pack for the CRARVs.

Armour can be bolted on…. And given it doesn't carry a lot of explosive ammo…. It's not that easy to take out crew fairly dispersed aswell…. So its good for the job.
Those challenger ARV's look so much like "bergepanzers" it's insane…

The first challenger 2 ukraine lost wasnt finished off by a ATGM as it was in dead ground next to the road, the t64 posted on the road to defend the damaged challenger was what was destroyed by a ATGM. The area came under heavy artillery bombardment which set the tank on fire cooking the ammunition off
Would be interested if the CRARRVs they received were from the earlier batch or the later batch as the earlier batch came in at around 36 tons and the later one were over 40 tons as the crew compartment was made with thicker steel
300 tanks taken with around 20-30 shells each thats a lot of extra shots

We might not have the defence budget of China or the United States but we are still a leading country in this increasingly dangerous world and we're still prepared to put our money where our mouth is and help countries who are under threat from dangerous world leaders.
