See also BBC’s “The Cambridgeshire Crucifixion” about a 3rd century male victim in England, discovered in 2017.
It's long been known that attaching the hands and feet to the cross was sometimes done with rope, and sometimes with iron nails. Plainly there wasn't a rigid procedure that prescribed everything in detail, and the condemned man would ultimately die even if he was "only" tied to the cross; it was the strain on the chest, heart and blood circulation that killed them, not the bleeding from their hands and feet.
The Jochanaan find is almost unique, and very interesting of course, but it can't simply be used as a blueprint for all executions by the cross in Judaea during the Roman era. We know that sometimes the victim was given a support to keep his feet standing on, so that he wasn't just hanging by his arms, and this simple move clould extend the time on the cross (and the pain) up to a couple of days. Clearly Jesus and the highway robbers were not given this succour, because it was necessary to finish them off within one day.
Tragic for all those he left behind, but it was a good death, he died doing what he loved surrounded by friends, not many of us get such a death.
There is a documentary on the history channel that explains the entire history of crucifixion
Far more educational
Okay this guy is an idiot! Those are artists renditions not photographers! And from what I've read there were many forms of crucifixion! Nails were expensive and in some cases rope worked just as well. I hate these programs that treat us like we're stupid.
Fictitious deities are only real on paper in books
Rome Wins !!!, Flawless victory! Fatality
It is said, it is thought, it is believed.
🙄An assumption that all crucifixions were carried out exactly the same way every time. There’s plenty of historic documentation detailing different ways that people were crucified. This is just rage bait.
Wow! Why hasn't anyone excavated those underground gurillia bases?!😮
The youtube ads make this almost impossible to watch. I cannot subscribe nor like the video. In fact, I am going to give it a thumbs down. Get it under control or I will start reporting the videos as spam and misleading
i was hoping this was life of brian ))
Weird that the Christians "conquered" Jerusalem, but the Muslims "re-took" it, when the opposite is true.
And Islam does not revere Jesus. They revere a false Jesus, who supposedly preached the same thing Mohammed did.
When the Muslims entered Jerusalem, they didn't demolish the churches.
Christian historians record in all their books that they didn't destroy a single church; your claims are false.
Salah aldin respect the Christians
Rubbish, strewn with inaccuracies.
