  1. The Jaguar X Type was a totally wrong ill advised misstep, and many could see it for what it was, a mere badge engineered Ford parts bin special with Jaguar badges and the jumping cat logo on the front.

It was a total sales flop, and even the estate versions although useful, couldn't make up for this rather bad misstep, useful as they were.

Premier Automotive Group (Ford's luxury car division) shouldn't have been given the job to make it, based on Ford parts from the Mondeo.

No wonder the car magazines were shocked when they got into it and saw a case of 'deja vu' staring them in the face.

It used a shortened Ford Mk1 Mondeo chassis and platform, this is why it received criticism for it's poor rear seat legroom, ample but not particularly roomy or comfortable for long trips, especially if you were six foot plus, which is unacceptable for a Jaguar.

The same automotive group within Ford, also sprung out the Jaguar S-Type Saloon also based on the same Mondeo platform, and through fishing in the parts bins at Ford, to produce another parts bin special with the same rear legroom issues, no estate versions, but to it's credit, it did get a smoother V6 diesel, and V6 twin turbo diesel to try and settle the fuel economy issues, which it did at 40mpg, less for the twin turbo and worse if you specified the 4 speed automatic transmission or semi-automatic transmission with the V6 diesel and twin turbo V6 diesel.

  2. It doesn't matter if you cars win Le Mans or the Grand National, if you are driving around in a rust bucket after a couple of years, like all British cars, they were unreliable rust buckets, ,and Lucas parts made them even worse.
