Great little car!
First car I ever owned, wonderful it was too.
I remember driving around with my grandfather in his.
Why are there no pictures of a Marina ?
It didn't have rear-opening (hinged at the rear) doors for one. Can't jump out to save yourself in those. A good ride that's not like a jolt wagon is another plus.
It didn’t disappear — do you know how many classic Minors are still on the road? They’re a much loved British classic car. Parts are readily available to restore them. Come on, get the facts straight! There are at least 3 still on the road around where I live. Not bad for a car that ended production 55 years ago.
It is how this lasted until 1971 is the mystery. Outdated ugly 1940s styling.
Most of the time the pictures don't match the commentary.
I'm 77 and remember the demise of the Morrie. In the last few years, quality control had slipped badly and car magazines (very popular pre-Internet) shook their heads at why the car got worse and worse over the final years while its main competitor, the VW Beetle got better and better as time went on.
All part of the "British Disease" I suppose.
Its stablemate the 1100 in its various badge engineered versions was a brilliant car for the era and easily took the place of the Morrie.
I owned an old Minor with the split windscreen and my father in law owned an 1100 so I experienced driving both of them and the 1100 won hands down in all departments. Then BMC shot itself in the foot by replacing the Minor with the dreadful Marina and the nasty Allegro.
The “mini” was never its replacement. It was originally called the Austin seven, and it’s Morris version was the “mini-minor” it was in a different class to the minor, it was like it’s smaller sibling. The little (mini) minor!
At 7:21 why show an "east west" front wheel drive enging, describe it a an Austin engine while it is clearly labelled Morris? Poor editing.
Then, when describing the new updated 1000 model you show shot after shot of the previous split windscreen model?
As for the Mini, that was a sort of cult car and really nothing to do with the Minor.
