Thank you for posting, Microlite Airsports have come on along way over the years.
And again Chief Pilot, thank you!
Enjoyed that, I actually remember watching it when originally broadcast. Thank you.
That was a really enjoyable watch. We take mobile phones, the internet and GPS for granted, while these lads did it all for real, with maps, compasses, common sense, luck and judgement.
G'day,
Ahhh, Trikes….
They work well in smooth laminar-flowing Air, stuff which has had a few thousand miles blowing over the flatness of the Ocean ; to rid it of the bumps from Mechanical Turbulence arising fractally from the Topography, when overflying Land.
I've watched a few people living in the Inland, and Mountains, who tried flying Trikes…., and they soon graduate to levitating in Aeroplanes with Aerodynamic Controls ; rather than providing the Muscles to heave the entire Tricycle, Engine, Fuel, Luggage and Crew's weight
Uphill, to correct the Course, EVERY time the Wing attempts to weave it's way between the Thermal Cores…
The other issue which annoyed them, was trying to fly formation with a 3-Axis Machine, at ANY Airspeed other than that at which their Wing was designed to fly at.
At their design-Speed, Trikes handle quite well, but add a few mph and the Servo/Pendulum has to pull the Bar in to prevent the Wing from climbing — and they soon tire of that, so they hook their Elbows over the Bar, promptly losing their ability to control it in the Roll Axis.
So, they soon tire of going anywhere in any kind of a Gaggle.
And, Crosswind Landings have been seen to go Very Wrong
VERY Fast….
Each to their own, clearly.
Such is life,
Have a good one…
Stay safe.
;-p
Ciao !
Another excellent find; well done. "Harrogate is not Ripon…" …"..the unfortunate Eden Blyth…"! Just to prove that I DID once have hair…. 🤣
