  1. Which fact surprised you the most about Ireland?
Be honest—I read every comment, and I’m curious if any of these were new even to you. Also, if you’re from Ireland, feel free to correct or add something most people don’t know!

  2. Oh dear. The pronunciations! Couldn’t even pronounce the word Celtic properly. The Irish language is known as Gaeilge. Gaelic is the umbrella term for Gaeilge, Gadhlig (Scottish Gaelic) and Gaelg (Manx/Isle of Man Gaelic). And by the way with regard to ‘not learning these facts at school’ -well if you’d been to school in Ireland you’d know all about them!

  3. I’m from Ireland living I the USA since 1959. My father from Galway where I was born had strange doings. He would put hawthorn branches. In the wheat fields. For good luck our friends next door Would no go shopping only on a Friday The beanshee. Would be heard howling before a death. My family believed this. There ate circularly. Stones. Near us in Galway. Nobody dares to touch them the hawthorn is sacred. Especially isolated in fields. We don’t touch them When people visits. Friends they said. Failte Meaning Am I I welcome. Leaving nyhey said slan abhaile. And the would. Walk with you About quarter of a mile. So many more things.

  4. Famine my bollocks, where was the rest of the food going,to? feed the British army the forests were wiped out by the brits too,the fucking greed of the empire ,language also wiped out by the brits, the brits should be ashamed of them selves, they don't even know why ,because the brits don't teach about what their empire did

  5. proof that AI is useless at pronunciation!!! Samhain is not pronounced 'sam-han' …its an Irish word said like
sow-in with emphasis on the sow!!
On red hair…ha!! do not believe what it says.
…you'll be hard pressed to see anyone with red hair in Ireland. Per-head there are more red heads in Scotland or Germany than Ireland. The image of red-headed Irish was created in Hollywood by who wanted to make movies in the 1950's & 60's …about Ireland for Irish Americans,

  6. Thanks Generic British AI voice over. Yes potato blight was terrible. However let’s be clear, potatoes were the only food available to the Irish. English law makers and English land owners ruled Ireland, starved the Irish and sold all Irish resources to the English without any investment in Ireland. It was colonial genocide of ireland 🇮🇪 I did love your list, but this one got me going 😊

  7. Very interesting but often felt I was listening to facts about Scotland. Well all the bad stuff while Ireland was a colony of England and Scotland still is. Ireland has come on leaps and bounds since it's wonderful independence.

  8. Ah ! Here !!!! Learn your history . The Irish languages was banned as was education (Hedge Schools) our religion was outlawed and priests were hanged . And by the way, not by our government . But a foreign occupier . And the map you portrayed is an insult to our country neither geographically correct or constitutional recognised . 👎👎👎

  9. IT HAS GOT EU FREAKY INFECTION'S !!!,? IT HAS DESOLVED INTO THE PIT'S OF HELL, THAT'S NOT PROGRESS, IT'S GONE BACKWARD'S ,!! WAKE UP & LIVE NATURAL LIFE, MAN,WOMAN & CHILD, !!!

  10. None of them surprised me. I'm from Ireland and already knew all these things. And some of these facts I did learn when I was in school lol. Here's one you haven't mentioned. During the dark ages, Ireland was a bastion of education and knowledge, with a large portion of European history and writings having been preserved and transcribed by Irish monks in monasteries across the country.
